Sybil Shrewsbury

ROCK – Sybil J. Shrewsbury, 91, of Rock, WV died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Princeton Health Care Center. Sybil was reunited with her mother, whom she had longed to see since losing her when she was only sixteen years old. Born May 3, 1925 in Rock, WV she was the daughter of the late Robert M. Ross and Rhoda Hetherington Ross. She was the last surviving member of her family. Sybil was an active member of Wesley Chapel Church in Rock, WV her entire adult life. She always enjoyed playing the piano and preparing delicious meals for the congregation. Having lost her mother at a young age, Sybil quickly learned the responsibilities of life. She performed the daily tasks of a farm. She managed a beautiful vegetable and flower garden as well as producing milk and butter for her community for many years. Her quilting ability was second to none. She quilted for her family and friends regularly. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Cecil Sexton; husbands, Felix Sexton and Howard Shrewsbury, Jr. and nine siblings, Hobart Ross, Kenneth Ross, Lawrence Ross, James Ross, Elmer Ross, Earl Ross, Lafe Ross, Clelia Mills and Edith Bowling. Survivors include five sons, Dennis Shrewsbury and wife Angela of Rock, Jerry Shrewsbury of Rock, Clarence Sexton and wife Pam of Rock, Larry Sexton and wife Wilma of Beeson and Roger Sexton and wife Dreama of Carswell Hollow. Sybil was also blessed with 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery officiating. Interment will follow at the Howard Shrewsbury, Jr. Family Cemetery at Rock. Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Browning, Tim Blevins, Willis Bishop, Bobby Bishop, Brent Murphy, David Sexton, Timothy Sexton and Chuck Cochran. Friends may visit with the family at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
