Ronnie Coomes

COVEL – Ronnie G. Coomes, 79, of Covel, went peacefully to his heavenly home, following a long illness, on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his home. Born April 10, 1943 in Beeson, he was the son of the late Howard Coomes and Lola McKinney Coomes. Mr. Coomes retired from Itmann Consolidated Coal Co. and was a member of UMWA. He attended Covel Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and telling stories. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy Coomes Crotty and Julie Coomes Worley; and one brother, Keith “Buck” Coomes. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Hazel Green Coomes; five children, Robin Coomes Thomas and husband Roy of Ararat, VA, Michael Coomes and wife Rhonda of Garwood, Ron Coomes and wife Denise of Dallas, OR, Ronnie Coomes, Jr. of Covel and Jonathan Coomes and wife Susan of Basin; four brothers, Jarl “Jimmy” Coomes and wife Rose of Bluewell, Kenny “Terry” Coomes of Clarksville, Scotty Coomes and wife Helen of Lashmeet, Jody Coomes and wife Donna of Gray, TN; special sister-in-law, Pam Coomes of Lashmeet; nine grandchildren, Marina Hutchinson and husband Allen, Colton Coomes and wife Allison, Tyler Short and wife Karah, Maddie Carr, Ben Carr, McKenzie Coomes, Hunter Coomes, Zachary Scales and Presleigh Coomes; and four great grandchildren, Isla Hutchinson, Karston Hutchinson, Jordan Scales and Raiden Short. Ronnie also leaves behind a host of family and friends who will remember him as a loving husband, a proud father and a faithful and caring friend. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Covel Baptist Church, Goonie Otter Hollow Road, Covel, with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Cemetery on Bud Mountain. Serving as pallbearers will be Colton Coomes, Tyler Short, Roy Thomas, Allen Hutchinson, Jody Coomes and Rick Marsh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 13, Covel, WV 24719. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 23, 2023 from noon until service hour at the Covel Baptist Church. Arrangements by Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
