KEGLEY - Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and retired nurse, Naoma Shrewsbury Taylor of Kegley left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on June 21, 2022, after living life to the fullest. Ms. Taylor was born in Springton, WV to the late Cecil Shrewsbury and Ila Blanch Foley Shrewsbury, and was raised in Beeson, WV. She graduated from Matoaka High School and the Mercer County Vocational Technical Center where she studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She retired after 20 years of service at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Naoma’s love of gardening was evident by the beautiful flowers and garden surrounding her home. Anyone who knew her will remember her for the delicious food she made from “a little of this and a little of that.” Later in life Ms. Taylor loved traveling across the United States and abroad; one of her favorite trips was to the Holy Land in Israel. She was truly a lady before her time who met life with strength and determination. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Taylor; her son, Barry; her sisters, Ruby McKinney, Velda Bailey, Wanda Faye Lester, and Arleta Jean Connor; and her brothers, George Shrewsbury, Lotie Shrewsbury, and Dewey Shrewsbury. She will be truly missed by her surviving sister, Janice Gullion of Kegley; her two children, Garry (Sharon) Taylor and Deborah (Stephen) Akers both of Rock; her two granddaughters, Monica (Joe) Blair of Rock and Kelly (Jared) Donahue of Concord, NC; and her four great-grandchildren, Ray, Simon, Gracelyn and Gunner. Naoma instilled a love of traveling, camping, cooking, and canning in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They spent many years doing these activities together. Naoma always enjoyed children and cared a great deal about their well-being. It is for this reason that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any children’s charity, especially those that work to end abuse and neglect. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2022 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Craig Hammond officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. The family will receive friends Monday, June 27, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.bailey-kirk.com.
