Launa Lee Bowling
November 6, 2021
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Launa Lee Meadows Bowling, age 90, formerly of Camp Creek, passed away on November 6, 2021. She was survived by her husband of 66 years, Carl Bowling; her daughter, Diana Cooper; and her two grandchildren, Jenna and Ken. Her parents were Ivan and Myrtle Meadows. Launa grew up in West Virginia, primarily on Stovall Ridge, with her parents and nine siblings. She attended Spanishburg High School. She was passionate about becoming a teacher and determined to get an education degree, which she received from Concord College. She first taught in a one-room school house out in the mountains. Later, when she and her husband moved to the Chicago area, she taught elementary school for about 30 years. She loved teaching the children and thought they were all little angels. After Launa retired, somewhat reluctantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She looked forward every year to the family reunions with her siblings and extended family. She became a talented quilter. She surely had a green thumb from her early years on the farm, evidenced by the beautiful flowers and ferns she grew in her yard. Launa was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed…until we meet again in heaven, her forever home. Launa never forgot her roots in West Virginia and returned there year after year, instilling a love for that beautiful state in her children and grandchildren. Her celebration of life was held in the Stovall Ridge Baptist Church that her father had built and pastored so long ago. Information submitted by Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
