SPEEDWAY – Jerry “Barney” Thompson, 52 of Speedway died Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Princeton Community Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 9, 1966 in Bluefield he was the son of Freal Thompson, Sr. of Kegley and the late Eleanor Huffman Thompson. Jerry was a 29-year employee of the West Virginia Department of Highways. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with friends and family. Jerry was always willing to help other people. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Brenda Hampton Thompson; siblings, Geneva Jenkins and husband David of Kegley, Allen Thompson and wife Carol of Spanishburg, Glenda Ford and husband Steven of Speedway, Delores Harmon and husband Dewey of Lashmeet and Freal Thompson, Jr. and wife Nancy of Kegley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Barbara Hampton; sister-in-law, Donna Barton and husband, Butch; several nieces and nephews including Allen Thompson, Jr.; special little buddy, Jayden Cole and life-long friend, Allen Addison. He also leaves behind his canine companions, Daisy, Peanut and Pebbles. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Oncology Staff of Princeton Community Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home with Rev. David Damewood officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
