    Homer Eller

    August 23, 1927 - April 30, 2022

    PRINCETON - Homer A. Eller, 94, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Princeton Health Care Center surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 23, 1927 in Pine Swamp, Idlewild, North Carolina to the late Cora Elizabeth (Collins) and Walter Eller. Homer worked for Deerfield mines for 23 years. In 1963 he went to work for the Postal Service, retiring some years later. He was known as a hard worker, willing to help anyone in need. Homer was a veteran of World War II having served in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Princeton Moose Club and a member of the Princeton Masonic Lodge #134. Homer enjoyed camping, traveling, listening to music, cornhole, playing cards and spending time with his family. He was of Christian Faith. Homer is preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Ruth Mabe, Hazel McMillan Martin, Johncie Wimmer and Betty “Booty” Hartless; five brothers, Thurman Eller, Claude Eller, Lloyd “Tud” Eller, Jack Eller and Wade Eller; and son-in-law David Walker. Homer is survived by the love of his life Mildred Clark Eller. They celebrated 74 years of marriage on February 14, 2022. Also left to cherish his memory are daughters, Marquita Walker of Princeton, Juanita Swatts (Mike) of Bluefield and Bonita Hubbard (Lee) of Princeton; grandchildren, Kimberly Johnson (Kenneth), David Walker, Jr., Shanna Autrey (Chuck), Tonya “Missy” Gerber (Vince), Shane Swatts (Leah), Jason Taylor (Jennifer); 14 great grandchildren; and 8 great, great grandchildren; and special friends Janie and Jim Wiblin. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Ronald Booher officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
