Francis "Penny" Combs

SHADY SPRING – Francis “Penny” Combs, 95, of Shady Spring, died Thursday, September 9, 2021. Born February 15, 1926 in Hiawatha, he was the son of the late William Combs and Goldie Spangler Combs. Mr. Combs was a retired coal miner. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family. He read his Bible at least two hours each day. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loma Mills Combs; one son, Frank Combs; one daughter, Patricia Shrewsbury; two sisters, Katherine Shrewsbury and Mary Louise Akers; six brothers, Lawrence Combs, William Combs, Oscar Combs, Alonzo Combs, David Combs and Cecil Combs; one grandson, Frank Combs, Jr.; and one granddaughter, Felicia Davidson Marcum. Survivors include two daughters, Delila Zeboskey and husband Joe of Beckley and Evelynne Phillips and fiancé Darren Moore of Cool Ridge; one son, Francis Shawn Combs of Mullens; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Butch Acord officiating. Interment will follow at Keaton-Mills Cemetery at Egeria. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 18, 2021 from noon until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
