MATOAKA – Floyd Bennett, 82, of Matoaka, died Friday, October 30, 2020. Born July 23, 1938 in Matoaka he was the son of the late Mack Bennett and Nora Tilley Bennett. Floyd was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and retired from Eastern Coal Company. He loved hunting, NASCAR and football. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Taylor Bennett; two sons, Bill Bennett and Basil Bennett; three brothers; four sisters; son-in-law Robert Dingess; four grandchildren; and special friend, Chris Lusk. He is survived by his wife of six years, Annie Montrosse Bennett; children, Floyd Mack Bennett, Jr. (Tina) of Casper, Wyoming, Rita Cornelius (Dennis) of Valdese, North Carolina, Calvin Bennett, Sr. (Betty) of Matoaka, Freda Dingess of Princeton, C. J. Bennett, Jr. (Angie) of High Point, North Carolina, Tabatha Sheets of Georgia; step-children, Ricky Wall (Angie) of Mullens and Michael Walls (Cassie) of Herndon; special “adopted daughter” Sandra Powell; sisters, Joan Lusk of Morgantown, Louise Williams of Princeton, Rosie Milam of Jamestown, Tennessee and Janie Thomas of Matoaka; 19 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor David Lee officiating. Interment will follow at the Bennett Family Cemetery on Arista Mountain. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 4, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
