William Smith

KEGLEY – William F. Smith, 89, of Kegley, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 10, 2013 after a short illness at Westwood Center in Bluefield, VA. Born May 12, 1924 in Danville, IL, he was the son of the late Edward Smith and Goldie Watson Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Normandy during World War II. He lived in Danville, IL and Georgetown, IL where he worked as a switchman for Norfolk and Western Railroad. He was a member of the Danville, Illinois Masonic Lodge. Following his retirement, he moved to West Virginia in 1995. He was a dedicated member of Maple View Church of Christ in Bluefield where he sang in the choir. He also attended Fairview Christian Community Church in Princeton. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and fishing. He was a fun-loving person and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Carr Smith; two daughters, Pamela Van Blaricom and her husband Bob of Kegley and Karla Nose and her husband Jay of Evansville, IN; five grandchildren, Trisha Beck and her fiancé David Hogan of Evansville, IN, Jessica Egan and her husband Michael of Evansville, IN and Zach Van Blaricom, Isaac Van Blaricom and Luke Van Blaricom all of Kegley; and four great-grandchildren, Jayden, Nathan, Sydney and Carson. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Tony Reed and Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Following the service, military honors will be conducted by the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Family will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 5:30 until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
