Wayne Carrington

BLUEFIELD - Wayne Nelson Carrington, 68 of Bluefield, formerly of Kyle, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024. Born February 16, 1956 in Welch, he was the son of the late Vera T. Carrington and Joseph Brown. Wayne attended Northfork High School. He lettered in football as QB All County, All Area, All State and Prep All American. He led Northfork Blue Demons to the state championship in 1973 and state runner-up in 1974. He lettered as guard in basketball All County and All Area. He also led Northfork Blue Demons in basketball to back-to-back State Championship in 1974 and 1975. Wayne worked at many establishments that he poured his heart into, and later became a home health aide to help care for those in need. Wayne loved sports and paid special attention to his hometown and college basketball and football. Wayne will be acknowledged in the McDowell County Hall of fame on July 20, 2024. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward “Tommy” Carrington, Kermit "Bobby" Carrington and Joe Johnson. Left to continue his legacy include his daughter, Kendra Carrington of Columbus, OH; two sons, Sherron Carrington and wife Tiffany and youngest son, Jaden Carrington all of Bluefield. In addition to his surviving children, Wayne’s life will be celebrated by his sister, Berta Fowler and husband James of Bluefield; three brothers, Douglas Carrington of Forest, VA Ronald Carrington and wife Grace of Coral Springs, FL and Michael Turner; special niece, Keisha Carrington and husband Darrell; special nephew, Derrick Fowler and wife Carrie; special aunt, Barbara Kirksy; two grandsons, Christopher Jameson of Columbus OH, Gregory Carrington of Bluefield; two granddaughters, Laylianna and Kya Carrington both of Bluefield. Wayne had a close friendship with many and held former classmates, and best friends, Duck Riley and James “Tiny” Flynn, near and dear, as well as a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. David Jasper Cooper, officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
