Vernon B. Hubbard

PRINCETON – Vernon B. Hubbard, 87, of Princeton, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his residence following a long battle with cancer. Born June 16, 1926 at Matoaka, he was the son of the late Dewey Hubbard and Sylvia Blankenship Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard was a proud veteran serving in the US Army during World War II. Among the accommodations he received include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Disabled VFW. He retired from Eastern Coal Local 9781. He was instrumental in the raising and dedication of the American Flag in honor of our veterans at BB&T Bank. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed his NASCAR collection. He was very proud of his home and enjoyed tending to it. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Auline Hubbard in 2007; two brothers, Quinten Hubbard and Jack Hubbard; and one sister, Mag Peterson. Survivors include one daughter, Dara Atkins and her husband Mark of Wilmington, DE; one son, Blake Hubbard and his wife Lynda of Easton, MA; three granddaughters, Misty Dec of Wilmington, DE, Lori Blevins and her husband Rich of Middletown, DE and Sarah Hubbard of Austin, TX; one grandson, Blake Hubbard, III and his wife Brandy of San Francisco, CA; two step-granddaughters, Tracy Powers of Easton, MA and Tina Barnes of Canton, MA; one step-grandson, Arthur Barnes and his wife Angela of Holden, MA; five great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine and Joan of Wilmington, DE; and special friends, Lynn and Loma Dishner, Rhonda Blankenship and Becky and John Young all of Princeton. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
