Perry Vest

LASHMEET – Perry Vest, 86, of Lashmeet, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 16, 2022 at PHCC surrounded by his family. Born June 28, 1936 in Matoaka, he was the son of the late Walter Vest and Maude Hanks Vest. Mr. Vest attended Matoaka High School and enlisted in the US Army serving in the Korean War. After the Army he worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan, followed by several years as a West Virginia coal miner. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Shawnee Baptist Church in Kegley. He enjoyed singing in church, camping, hunting, attending the WV State Fair, eating at McDonald’s and riding with his buddy Cody looking for deer and turkey. Perry was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years, Lillie Holbrooks Vest; second wife of seven years, Pansy Taylor Vest; and siblings, Alma, Amos, Joe, Mae, Marie, Marion and Roy. Those left to cherish his memory include his four children, Frances Walker and husband Cody of Lashmeet, Terri Burkhart and Scott of Highlandville, MO, Joyce Burress and Kirby of Eatontown, NJ and Perry Vest, Jr. and wife Tammy of Kegley; seven grandchildren, Alisha Mitchell and husband J.C., Corey Walker, Crystal Shrewsbury and Zach, Misty Grider and husband Brad, Jeremy Shrewsbury and wife Megan, Curtis Burress and wife Ali and Matthew Burress; and eight great grandchildren, Payton, Baylee, Landon, Gavin, Gracelynn, Skyler, Emory and Evelyn. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Gary Raulerson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. The family is asking those who attend to wear blue and gold. Interment will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2022 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Burress, Corey Walker, Scott Grider, J.C. Mitchell, Jason Knowles and Sean Boyles. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
