Maxie Mitchem

PRINCETON- Maxie G. Mitchem, 79, of Black Oak Mountain near Princeton passed away on April 28, 2015 at Princeton Community Hospital after a long illness. Born June 22, 1935 in Princeton he was the son of the late General B. Mitchem and Pearl Williams Mitchem. Maxie traveled between West Virginia and Maryland during his lifetime. He worked in coal mining then Maryland Dry Dock as well as Bethlehem Steel. He returned home in 1974 to live his dream of building a home and farm in West Virginia. In addition to the love of his family, Maxie will be remembered as an avid horseman, dog breeder and animal lover. He was a devoted member of Free Pentecostal Church of God in Princeton for 25 years and enjoyed watching Biblical movies to pass the time. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Mitchem, Burbidge Mitchem, James Mitchem, Robert Mitchem, Ervin Mitchem and Dewey Mitchem and his sisters, Thelma Lane, Delle Williams and Aretta Barwick. He was the devoted husband of Glynda Charley Mitchem and is also survived by his children, Curtis M. Mitchem and Joyce, Kathy Mitchem Nance and Dave and Carolyn Mitchem and Donald; his loving grandchildren, Curtis Wayne Mitchem, Billy Ray Mitchem, Jeffery France, David Nance and Sabrina France; six great grandchildren, Scott Carter, Curtis Wayne Mitchem, Jr., Jayden Mitchem, Gavin Mitchem, Ryan Warren and Tristen France; sisters, Dorothy Carter and Darlene Sexton and Paul; sister-in-law, Wanda Foister and Fred; brother-in-law Ronnie Saylor and Gerry and former wife, Dolly Mays Baliko. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. David Barnette, Rev. Roger Walker and Rev. L. A. Farmer officiating. Interment will follow at the Mitchem Family Cemetery near his home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
