Mark Patton

PRINCETON – Mark Daniel Patton, 58, of Princeton, died Saturday, August 18, 2012. Born May 3, 1954 at Bluefield, he was the son of Joyce Pruett Patton Scott of Bluefield, VA and the late U.D. "Pat" Patton. Mr. Patton was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church in Bluefield and attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Princeton. He was a 1972 graduate of Bluefield High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Bible Club, Chess Club and the band. He was a 1979 honor graduate of Bluefield State College where he received a BS degree in marketing and management and a BA degree in Accountancy in 2005. He served in the US Army from 1973-1975 where he was an honor graduate in Mechanics. He was the owner and operator of Patton's Tax Service on the New Hope Road in Princeton. He was the former manager of Wendy's in Bluefield, Burger Chef in Bluefield, former financial aid director of Valley College in Princeton, former employee of Conn-Weld in Princeton and a former employee of NAPA in Bluefield. He enjoyed fishing and reading and was a professional photographer. He was a member of chess clubs and square dance clubs in the area and was an excellent carpenter. He loved his special canine companion, Molly. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rufus and Lula Patton; and his maternal grandparents, Ruth and Sheridan Pruett. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of 23 years, Shirley Billings Patton of Princeton; two sons, William Daniel Patton and his wife Brittainy of Seymour, TN and Mark David Patton and his fiancé, Sue Lilly of Princeton; one daughter, Miki Renee West of Gloucester, VA; one brother, David Scott Patton and his wife Rhonda of Glenwood; two grandchildren, Caleb Patton of Gloucester, VA and Hudson Patton of Seymour, TN; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Lyle Mullins officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley where military honors will be conducted by the WV National Guard Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Calvin Proffitt, Cory Proffitt, Richard Davis, James White, Bill Wallace, Lee Hayton and Joey Norman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Animal Shelter, 961 Shelter Rd., Princeton, WV 24740. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
