Kenny Slone

LASHMEET – Taking his last earthly breath on December 30, 2013, Kenny Ray Slone, 61, beheld the sight of Jesus welcoming him with open arms to his eternal home. Born March 1, 1952 in Bluefield, he was the son of the late Oscar Slone, Jr. and Bentley Hurst Slone. Mr. Slone was a disabled coal miner and a member of UMWA Local #9781 having worked at Eastern Associated Coal Co. at Herndon for 16 years. He was involved with youth sports in Mercer County for over 20 years. He served not only as a coach, but as a mentor to the children he coached. Also known as “Coach Kenny,” he was a proud recipient of the Award of Excellence for Exemplary Display of Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity, awarded by the NFHS and principal Disibbio of PikeView High School. He was a dedicated Mountaineer fan, a member of the Princeton Moose Lodge, loved working in his garden and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music. He attended Lashmeet Church of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar “Leo” Slone. Left to treasure his memory is his childhood sweetheart, best friend, and loving wife of 26 years, Kathy Hart Slone; five children, Garry Stutts and his wife Sabrina of Peterstown, Paul Slone and his wife Jennifer of Shepardsville, KY, Betty Powell and her husband Jeff of Princeton; Jessica Hensley and her husband William (Scooter) of Lashmeet and Sabrina Slone and her fiancé Josh Gray of Gardner; he was Papaw to ten grandchildren who adored him, Alex, Haley, Tanner, Zach, Briana, Jada, Kayla, Matthew, Rayden and Jorja; brothers, Lacy Young and his wife Laura of Lashmeet, Dale Slone and his wife Lisa of Princeton and Lennie Slone and his wife Debbie of Vine Grove, KY; special aunts and uncles, Bobby and Elaine Watson, Gloria Slone, Glenda and Paul Bradley and Deanie Jennings; special friends, Jerry and Cheral Pugalee, Wonnie Graham and Jeff Dotson; mother-in-law, Betty Humphrey of Lashmeet; brothers-in-law, Johnny Hart, Jerald Hart and his wife Pam, Richard Hart and Ronald Hart; step-father, Bobby and his wife Martha Beasley and their son, Chuck Autrey; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. “Kenny has gone where rainbows never die.” Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Michael Raulerson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
