June Graham

PRINCETON – June Graham, 85, of Princeton, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at her home. Born May 10, 1925 at Arista, she was the daughter of the late William Shrewsbury and Martha Susan Akers Shrewsbury. Mrs. Graham was very devoted to her family and was a loving grandmother to Sean and Chris and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of Kee Street United Methodist Church in Princeton. She was a former employee of Maidenform in Princeton. She loved to cook and worked in the deli at Acme, Kroger and Allen’s in Princeton. She also cooked at First Baptist Church in Princeton for several years. She enjoyed sports and always looked forward to going to her grandson’s games. In her younger years she was very athletic. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her first husband, Jessie L. Steelman in 1970; her second husband, Billy Graham in 2010; four sisters, Gladys McCroskey, Dessie Bailey, Audrey Perdue and Stella Shrewsbury; and five brothers, Kester Shrewsbury, Elmer Shrewsbury, Raymond Shrewsbury, Dewey Shrewsbury and Oscar Shrewsbury. Survivors include one daughter, Diana Kirk and her husband David of Princeton; two grandsons, Sean Kirk of Greensboro, NC and Christopher Kirk and his wife Kerrie of Kernersville, NC; two brothers, Carlos Shrewsbury and his wife Pauline and Glen Shrewsbury and his wife Betty all of Lashmeet; one sister, Bernice Bowling of Matoaka; many nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Marie Moore of Princeton, Anna Cole of Princeton and Helen Burnette of Beckley. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Arnold Akers officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
