Jerry Buckner

PRINCETON – Jerry Wayne Buckner, 57, of Princeton, was called to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, March 1, 2012 at his home. Born July 29, 1954 at Beckley, he was the son of Virginia Pauline Cordell Buckner of Princeton and the late Rev. Noah Buckner. Jerry was a 1972 graduate of Princeton High School and was a former employee of Acme and A&P grocery stores in Princeton. Jerry had been an employee of the US Postal Service in Bluefield for 27 years where he served as a mail processing clerk. He enjoyed playing basketball with his brothers and friends. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan. He enjoyed bicycling, antiquing, restoring cars and working on his house. Jerry lived his life in accordance with the following quote: "In the time we have it is surely our duty to do all the good we can to all the people we can in all the ways we can." – William Barclay. He did so much good to so many different people in so many different ways. Jerry touched the lives of all who came to know him. Jerry never met a stranger. He often helped those he just met. Jerry would literally give the shirt off his back if he thought one was in need. He was the most caring, loving, giving, honest and loyal man any person could ever hope to have the privilege to know. His life of caring for and service to others is one in which Jesus described when he said "by this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." – John 13:35. Jerry lived his life as an example that all others should follow. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and anyone else that had the privilege and honor to know him. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Judy Buckner. In addition to his mother, he is survived by five brothers, Benny Buckner and his wife Marietta, Harold Buckner and his wife Bonnie, Roger Buckner, Eddie Buckner and his wife Jeanne and Danny Buckner and his wife Karen all of Princeton; four sisters, Wilma Grubb and her husband Earl, Brenda Davis and her husband Mike and Melissa Pentasuglia and her husband Tim all of Princeton and Joyce Hassen and her husband Sam of Chester, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Fairview Christian Community Church in Princeton with the Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Pendleton, Larry Carter, Nick Constantino, Frankie Stinson, Rick Fowler and Bob Belcher. Honorary pallbearers will include Josh Buckner, Jeffrey Buckner, Eric Buckner, Harold Lee Buckner, Jr., Jonathan Buckner, Barry Buckner, Gabe Wood, Aaron Pentasuglia, David Hassen, Chris Hassen, Joseph Ball, Wayne DeBoard, Willy Modad, Wes Mills and Tracy McClaugherty. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Christian Community Church, 120 Blackoak Rd., Princeton, WV 24740. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Fairview Christian Community Church in Princeton.
