George Leake

PRINCETON – George Thomas Leake, 78 of Princeton died Friday, June 29, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Princeton. Born May 26, 1934 in Crites, WV he was the son of the late Henry Glen Leake and Eva Beatty Leake. Mr. Leake was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U. S. Navy and and then served in the U. S. Navy Reserve. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 1991, he and his wife moved from Rittman, OH to the Princeton area. He loved people, held a strong work ethic and loved to travel. He was employed for 29 years by Island Creek Coal Company Stores as a store manager. Later he worked for Firestone Steel, Henderson, KY; Astro-Neurological, Orville, OH, Celanese Fibers, Narrows, VA and Volvo, Dublin, VA. Following retirement he was a Wal-Mart greeter in the Princeton store. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Franklin Leake and one sister, Elizabeth Bradley. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virginia Ruth Leake; three daughters, Georgia Ann Elkins and husband Larry of Hatfield, KY; Katherine Joyce Bennett and husband Jeff of Summersville and Mary Ruth Kessler and husband Kevin of Princeton; one son, Roy David Leake and wife Darlene of Williamson; one sister, Mary Jo Leake of Logan; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Jackie Maynard officiating. Interment will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH where military honors will be conducted by the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Amedisys Hospice, Rt. 2, Box 182, Bluefield, WV 24701.
