E.L. Dunavant,

PRINCETON – E.L. Dunavant, Jr., 91, of Cassell’s Board and Care, Princeton, formerly of Kinser Road, Pinoak, passed away Monday, November 01, 2010. Born January 15, 1919 at Spanishburg, he was the son of the late Edgar L. Dunavant, Sr. and Minnie Keys Dunavant. Mr. Dunavant retired from the Capels Mine of Semet-Solvay Division of Allied Chemical Corporation and was a member of UMWA District 17, Local 6033 having joined the union in 1936. He had also been a member of Locals 955 and 6204. He had served as the Treasurer of the UMWA Pensioners Club of Princeton for several years, as well as being a member of the Board of Directors of the Bluestone Health Center. Mr. Dunavant was a veteran of WWII having served in the Pacific Theater as a member of the U.S. Amry 955th Engineering Company attached to the 13th Air Force. His duty stations included, Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Northern Solomons, South and North Philippines, Luzon, Lady Beach and New Hebrides. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. West Dunavant in 1998; three sisters, Lucy Jewel McComas, Velda Kronenburg Frost and Fleeta Hopkins. Survivors include two sons, R. Blaine Dunavant and his wife Sheila and Ronnie W. Dunavant and his wife Connie all of Princeton; two sisters, Havis Kester and Wilma Peters both of Richmond,VA; three grandchildren, Valerie Lester and her husband Ricky of Bluefield, Christopher Dunavant of Blacksburg, VA and Kelly Dunavant and his wife Lindsay of Clarksburg; four great-grandchildren, Shian and Alyssa Lester of Bluefield and Riley and Madeline Dunavant of Clarksburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Pastor John King officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the WV National Guard Honor Guard. Friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton by 1:45 p.m. Friends may call Wednesday, November 3, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
