B.J. Martin

PRINCETON – Dr. B.J. (Bill) Martin, 84, of Princeton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Born September 2, 1926 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Carl Johnson Martin and Gladys Belcher Martin. Dr. Martin was a 1944 graduate of Matoaka High School and served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Following his military service, he was a graduate of Concord College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Princeton for 52 years. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the WV State Dental Association and the Mercer/McDowell Dental Society. Dr. Martin was a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton for more than 50 years where he served as a deacon. He also served on the First Community Bank Board of Directors for many years. He was an avid big game hunter and enjoyed working on the family farm at Dunns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Paulette Martin-Jones; and two sisters, Ramona Caponegro and Joyce Radison. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Cook Martin; two sons, Dr. Kevin Martin and his wife Jenny of Princeton and Alan Martin and his wife Cindy of Morgantown; one son-in-law, Adrian Jones of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Diane Livings of Baton Rouge, LA and Muriel Denari and her husband Edward of Euless, TX; four grandchildren, Karen Fetty and her husband John, Tara Martin, Bryan Martin and Anna Martin Carr and her husband Sherman; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery and the Rev. Sam Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council and the WV National Guard Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1116 Mercer St., Princeton, WV 24740.
