Billy Stables, Sr.

MATOAKA - Billy Harold Stables, Sr, 83, of Matoaka, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026. Born April 12, 1943, in Matoaka, he was the son of the late Eugene Stables and Annie Wiley Stables. Billy was a former employee of Eastern Coal and retired from West Virginia Department of Highways where he was also the local union representative. He served as mayor for the town of Matoaka for four years. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a former member of the Matoaka Pentecostal Church and Mary’s Branch Church of God until their closings. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and four-wheeler riding with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years and the love of his life, Hilda Beasley Stables; and siblings, twin sister, Judy Barlow, Lee Stables, James Stables, Garland Stables, Eugene Stables, Tommy Stables, Dolly Smith, Shirley Williams, Margaret Crotty, and Nellie Sigmon. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Anna Stables and significant other Robert Dickenson, and Billy Stables, Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob Stables and wife Elizabeth, Tyler Stables and fiancé Kate McNeely, Alissa Bittinger and husband Jayson; Samantha Stables and significant other Randall Jones; and Billy Stables III; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Wyatt, Ruby, Trinidy, Annavie, and Harrison; special grandson, Grayson Smith; sister, Peggy Davis; brother, Roger Stables; great-niece, Heather Brown; special friend, James Selleck; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Fred Lee, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. Dakota Cecil, Patrick Blizzard, Garrett Harris, Chris Shrewsbury, Jayson Bittinger, and Steven Sommers will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive visitors from noon until the service hour. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to caretakers; Dr. Surayia Hasan, M.D., and Dr. Omar Hasan, M.D., both of Beckley, and the staff at Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, WV.
