Alfred "Pluto" Davis

LASHMEET – Alfred Lee “Pluto” Davis, 95, of Lashmeet, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at GlenWood Park Retirement Village in Princeton. Born May 27, 1918 at McComas, he was the son of the late Albert Martin Davis and Willie Margaret Adams Davis Sweeney. Mr. Davis was retired from Consolidation Coal Company and was a member of UMWA Local 7086. He was a member Lashmeet Freewill Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher and Deacon.He was a former member of the Matoaka Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed playing ball, working jigsaw puzzles, and watching and feeding birds, squirrels and deer. In his younger years, he coached and umpired several local baseball teams and he was a boxer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Clarence (Bud) Davis, Buster Davis, Author Davis, Bill Davis, Dan Davis, Oakley (Weasel) Davis and James Sweeney; five sisters, Gladys Dishner, Nellie McKinney, Sovina Tiller, Ethel Gordon and Ruth Gillenwater; and a son-in-law, Jackie Bell. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Helen Davis; one son, Albert M. Davis and his wife Kathy of Camp Creek; two daughters, Phyllis M. Bell of Lashmeet and Brenda J. Fine and her husband Daniel of Lashmeet; two sisters, Virgie Holmes of Princeton and Gertie Honaker of Portsmouth, VA; nine grandchildren, Michael I. Bell, Donna D. Clinebell, Cynthia C. Taylor and her husband David Jr., Gary L. Davis and his wife Bev, Stephen D. Davis, Daniel P. Fine and his wife Donna, Robin W. Fine and his wife Cathy, Kerri L. Hurt and her husband Michael, Mandy J. Prince and her husband Ernie; 17 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren, including special great-great-granddaughter, Madysun Ivory Boyd; and two on the way. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Larry Cecil officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday, March 17, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.
