LASHMEET – Mary L. Combs, 86, of Lashmeet, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Princeton.  Born May 10, 1924 at Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Jasper Coomes and Louemma Jones Coomes.

 

Mrs. Combs had been living with her daughter, Pam Rickman, for the last year in Princeton.  Mary loved her family, her church and singing.   Mary enjoyed canning, gardening and cooking for her family.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Alonzo Combs in 2008; one son, Norman Glen Combs; one sister, Marie Joyce; five brothers, Roy Coomes, Ray Coomes, Clarence Coomes, Howard Coomes and Paul Coomes; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Lou Combs.

 

Survivors include three sons, Donald Combs and his wife Wanda, Wayne Combs and his wife Dorothy and Anthony Combs and his wife Darra all of Lashmeet; one daughter, Pam Rickman and her husband Marvin of Princeton; one brother, Marvin Coomes of Delaware, OH; 14 grandchildren, Laura McComas and her husband Keith of Hickory, NC, Angie Lovell and her husband Rick of Lawrenceville, GA, Richard Holt and his wife Karena of Kennesaw, GA, Cheryl Knowles and her husband Jimmy of Bluefield, VA and Kristie Cecil, Michael Combs, Sharon Cecil, Jamie Reed, Samuel Combs and Zachary Combs, Dakota Hedges, Dustin Combs, Charles Combs and Donald Combs, Jr. all of Lashmeet; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and great friends; and caregiver, Sherri Rogers.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2010 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Revs. Randolph Dishner and Ralph Calfee officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
