PRINCETON – George Dewey Gilley, 73, of Princeton, died Sunday, November 6, 2011 at his home. Born November 8, 1937 at Widemouth, he was the son of the late McArthur Gilley and Mary Catherine Willis Gilley.
Mr. Gilley worked for the town of Matoaka for 30 years. He was of the Church of God faith. He loved his family and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Gilley and Roger Gilley.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Ellie Gilley; three sons, Dewayne Gilley and Carl Gilley both of Matoaka and Clyde Dunfee and his wife Tammy of Princeton; four daughters, Norma Bell and her husband Milo of Matoaka, Crystal Earle and her husband Brian of Princeton, Priscilla Farmer and her husband David of Lashmeet and Cozzettie Farmer of Spanishburg; two brothers, Alvin Gilley of Columbus, OH and Jerry Gilley of Radford, VA; five sisters, Mary Jones of Creston, North Carolina, Linmae Thomas and Bessie Brown both of Columbus, OH, Bertha Jean Pendergrass of Matoaka and Lorraine Brown of Fieldale, VA; and 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Jerry Heaton officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Princeton.
Pallbearers will be Brian Earle, David Farmer, Clyde Dunfee, Lee Brown, Lowell Pendergrass and Lou Smith.
